On My Workbench Today

I wonder how it will come out?
What would YOU do with it?

  1. out of all the materials there are, metal work is not one I've had experience with, so I'm afraid I won't be much help:(
Will all the charms be part of the piece too?

  2. Hi Dawn Gaye!
Believe it or not, that huge heart used to b an earring.
That's the backside I have showing.
I'm planning to use all of those elements, plus some.
Ice resin, and wire work, will hold it all together in a steampunky, mixed media necklace.
I haven't quite got it all sorted in my mind yet.

  3. okay - resin - now you are talking my language! I am very primitive when it comes to wire work, and the "real" metal artists - ones who use things called dappling blocks, something like ball peen hammers?? and any sort of heat and pickling ... um, what is it.... solder! right, all that is not in my realm of reference!

But resin... you mentioned ice resin. Is that the one you like most? I am constantly trying to avoid 2 part resins - the expense and the messiness:) I had an AWFUL experience once with envirotex lite and a huge custom backsplash I was doing for a customer and had a strict deadline for completion - it was a nightmare. The stuff did not set up, even tho I followed directions to the T. Maybe it was old, maybe it was too hot & humid where I live.. it began to drip down onto her sink and I had to pry it off the wall and remove every bit of resin - the product I had to use was so caustic it went right thru my rubber gloves & burned my fingers...
So, I look for shortcuts like triple thick glazes, mod podge dimensional magic, judikins diamond glaze... still experimenting & searching for the perfect thick, self leveling and mounding clear product that dries rock hard. Any suggestions welcomed:)

  4. The only one I have ever used is Ice Resin. I'm pretty new to it, but haven't had any problems with it.
My post 'Unchained Melody' was my first go at resin. In had tiny bubbles in it, but I LIKED them. I thought they gave the peice a dreamy vintagy look that was appropriate to the necklace..

I remember using Mod Podge when I was a kid! My aunt did a plaster of paris gingham dog and calico cat for my Gramma, that were covered in bits of fabric, and Mod Podged multiple times!
Those held up real well. But when it was humid, they got spongy and cloudy
I'm sorry I'm no better help!
